Summer Research Fellowship Programme, Indian Academy of Sciences

A. General

1) Application should be submitted online in the prescribed format. This link is available in the websites of the three Academies (www.ias.ac.in; www.insaindia.res.in; www.nasi.org.in).

2) Its mandatory to upload the marks sheets from class X till the last examination. Please have the scanned versions of mark sheets (in JPEG format), before starting to fill up the application.

 
3) Only one application per candidate will be considered. If more than one application is submitted, none of the applications will be considered.

4) Answers to columns indicated by an asterisk (*) are mandatory and must be filled.

5) The last date for receipt of applications online is 30 November 2019.

B. Eligibility criteria

Students

6a) Applicants should be studying in one of the following:

  • BS / BSc / BVSc (II year only)
  • BPharm (III and IV years only)
  • BE / BTech / BCA (II and III years only)
  • BArch (II, III and IV years only)
  • MS / MSc / MVSc / MPharm (I year only)
  • ME / MTech / MCA / MArch (I year only)
  • (5-year integrated) MS / MSc /MTech / MBBS (II, III, IV years only)
  • PharmD (III, IV years only)
  • (dual degree) BTech + MTech (II, III, IV years only)
  • (dual degree) BE + MSc (II, III, IV years only)
  • (dual degree) BS + MS (II, III, IV years only)
  • Integrated PhD (I, II years only)
  • MSc Tech (I, II years only)

Teachers

6b) Teachers must be teaching in a College/University.

7) The minimum percentage of average marks in core subjects only (i.e. excluding languages) from X std. up to post-graduation (whichever years completed) should be 65% or above for students.The minimum Percentage of average marks does not apply for teachers.

8) PhD students are not eligible.

9) Applicants who have availed the Academies fellowship twice before are not eligible to apply.

C. Contents

10) The applicant should include a write-up (about 150–250 words) as to the specific area of the applicant and indicate what he/she would like to learn and achieve through this fellowship. It can also include the specific experiment or theory that the applicant wants to work on but NOT a general description of the area. The write-up should not be a "copy and paste" job from any source.

11) Do not use special/scientific characters like Ø Ü etc...as the software will prevent you from uploading the application with such characters.

D. Enclosures to application

12) Both student and teacher applicants must upload scanned versions of mark sheets from class X till the last examination in JPEG Format (the size of each marks sheet should not exceed 700 kb).

13) Teacher applicants should upload their publications, if any. On selection, an authorization letter from the Principal/HoD that necessary permission/leave of absence will be granted should be sent by post to the Coordinator, SRFP 2020, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru 560 080.

E. Other matters

14) Student applicants must upload the contact details of one of their present teachers or the Head of the Department (HoD). The Academy will get in touch with the teacher and obtain the recommendation letter.

15) All decisions regarding the selection of candidates will be at the sole discretion of the Academies. Any grievance or dispute concerning SRFP 2020 shall be addressed to the Academy whose decision thereon shall be final.

16) If a candidate is found at any point of time to have submitted false information, his/her fellowship will be cancelled, and he/she will be asked to pay back the fellowship amount/travel allowance etc. that has been paid to him/her. Further his/her guide and the Institution in which he/she is currently studying will be informed of the matter.

17) Without prejudice to 15) above, only the courts at Bengaluru city shall be the fora for seeking judicial remedy, if any, for any dispute or grievance.

F. Notes

18) Academy means Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru. Academies mean Indian Academy of Sciences (Bengaluru), Indian National Science Academy (New Delhi), and The National Academy of Sciences, India (Prayagraj).

19) Guide means a person from the list of scientists/faculty approved by the Academies as guides.

2020 COMMONWEALTH MASTER’S SCHOLARSHIP IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
Online applications are invited from Indian nationals for ‘2020 COMMONWEALTH MASTER’ SCHOLARSHIP TENABLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM’ for pursuing one year Master Degree Courses commencing from September/October 2020. The Scholarships are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), UK.

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission’s Online Application System (OAS):

Notice: It is mandatory for the applicant to apply on both portals prior to their respective deadline, failing that bis/her candidature will be deemed ineligible.
Note: The final date for applying on CSC OAS is 30 October 2019.
Notice: CSC has offered a scholarship for pursuing Master’s Course (one year) only. Master Degree programs that are less than two years in duration aren’t equal to a Master Degree in India.
Note: CSC does not offer a scholarship for pursuing MBA.
Number of nomination:
39 nominations are made to the CSC. The CSC will inform this Ministry of the chosen applicants by June 2020.
Eligibility:
(i) The applicant has to be a Citizen of India.
(ii) The applicant must be a permanent resident of India.
(iii) The applicant has to be available to start his/her academic studies in the united kingdom by the onset of the UK academic year in September/October 2020.
(iv) The applicant must have completed or is expected to complete his/her Bachelor Degree by October 2020.
(v) The applicant should not be able to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship. (Candidates are compulsorily required to sign a declaration they don’t have access to sufficient funds to study in the UK).
(vi) Candidates who have been abroad for studies/training/ specialization either on scholarship or on their own, for a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply if they have been in India for at least 2 consecutive years according to’date’ after returning from abroad.
Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship is offered under the following themes:

  • Promoting global prosperity
  • Strengthening global peace, security and governance
  • Strengthening resilience and response to crises
  • Access, inclusion and opportunity.
Selection and nomination:
  • Candidates that have received an offer of admission from any participating universities should upload a copy of the same on the Ministry’s portal at the time of online application, failing which their candidature won’t be considered.
  • If there are a number of students compared to available nominations, in that scenario, the ranking of this University according to the ‘QS Ranking 2020’ will be taken to draw the merit list.
  • Theme-wise nomination would be made.
General Instructions:
  1. Candidates who don’t have the eligibility criteria don’t apply.
  2. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
  3. It’s very important that applicants that are in employment to which they would like to return after completion of their studies in the UK should have an assurance from their organization that on the final selection by the CSC, they’ll be granted sufficient leave to complete the study.

Online applications are invited from students for scholarships available for pursuing graduate/post-graduate courses in basic & natural science subjects as specified in the scheme.

QUALIFICATION

1. For 3-year B.Sc./4-year BS/5-year integrated M.Sc./M.S. in basic & natural science subjects, the students should have passed class X and XII Board examination from a school situated in Haryana with minimum 85% marks for Haryana Board School and 90% marks for other boards like CBSE/ICSE etc. in 12th class.
2. For 2-year M.Sc. in basic & natural science subjects, the student should have passed X, XII and B.Sc./B.A. (B.A. for M.Sc. Mathematics) from school/college/university situated in Haryana with minimum 75% marks in B.Sc./B.A. class.

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Program 2018



The notification for the National Fellowship For Candidates Interested in Research Career via the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Program 2018. Interested and eligible Indian Nationals can check out all of the details on the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Program.
The KVPY Fellowships have been awarded to Indian Nationals to Study in India (Students planning to pursue/pursing undergrad program below Distance Education scheme/correspondence course of any university aren’t eligible to apply).
Stream SA: Pupils registered in XI Standard (Science Topics ) throughout the academic year 2018-19 and having procured a minimum of 75 percent (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE topics from the X Standard Board Examination. The fellowship of those pupils chosen under this flow will be activated only if they join an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc. /B.Math. /Int. M.Sc. /Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2020-21 after having procured a minimum of 60 percent (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the XII standard/(+2) Board Exam. During the period of one year, they’ll be encouraged for the National Science (Vijyoshi) Camp and their travelling expenditures and local hospitality will be fulfilled by KVPY.
Stream SX: Pupils registered in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) throughout the academic year 2018–19 and aspiring to join undergraduate curriculum in Basic Sciences specifically Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology resulting in B.Sc. /B.Math. /Int. M.Sc. /Int. M.S. for its semester 2019–20 given they have secured a minimum of 75 percent (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the X Standard Board Exam plus a minimum of 60 percent (50% to SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE areas (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) from the XII standard Board Examination.
Students in their 2nd year of research at Cambridge International Examination Board and aspiring to join an UG program (viz. B.Sc. /B.S./B.Stat. /B.Math. /Int. M.Sc. /Int. M.S.)at Basic Sciences namely Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology at the Academic year 2018-19 are eligible to apply provided they have secured a minimum of 75 percent (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) from the X Standard Board Exam. They need to secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) from the XII standard Board Exam prior to taking up the fellowship if granted.
Stream SB: Pupils registered in the 1st year of undergraduate curriculum in Basic Sciences specifically Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology resulting in B.Sc. /B.S./B.Stat. /B.Math. /Int. M.Sc. /Int. M.S. throughout the academic year 2018–19 and having procured a minimum of 60 percent (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII Standard Board Exam. At the 1st year closing evaluation of B.Sc. /B.S./B.Math.  /B.Stat. /Int. M.Sc. /Int. M.S. they have to secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks prior to taking up the fellowship if granted.
Empowerment initiative at the KVPY Fellowship Program:
  1. A particular number of additional fellowships exclusively for its pupils belonging to SC/ST community below the numerous streams as mentioned previously will be worked.
  2. A definite number of fellowships under different streams as mentioned previously will be operated only for pupils under the class of Persons With Disability (Physically and Visually Challenged).
Students enrolled in an undergraduate class in Basic Sciences, in other words, B.Sc. /B.S./B.Stat.  /B.Math. /Int. M.Sc. /Int. M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science qualify for KVPY fellowship.
How to Apply:
Aptitude Test: After evaluation of application forms and fulfilling the eligibility standards for a variety of streams, all qualified students will be called for ability test conducted in Hindi and English at various centres throughout the country on Sunday, the 4th November 2018.
Admit Card
Pupils may obtain the admit card for the aptitude test out of the site from the second week of October 2018.
Interview: dependent on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed pupils will be requested to appear for an interview that’s the last phase of the selection process.
