United Nations Considerations
Daily
responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the
intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may
include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Proofreading texts for errors in grammar, punctuation and spelling. Correct issues relating to style and editorial policy.
2. Editing English language of the draft documents, concept notes and project documents for technical cooperation, background papers for the APCTT Governing Council, policy papers, publications; texts on APCTT website; information flyers, among others.
3. Checking for repetition and summarizing succinctly to send clear messages to the intended stakeholders.
4. Editing the presentation style of the draft and the appropriateness in line with the UN templates.
5. Other ad-hoc duties related to technical cooperation project implementations assigned by a staff/the Head of APCTT.
The intern will work with the designated staff of the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) in the implementation of the Centre’s substantive work programme. The work programme broadly involves developing and promoting regional mechanisms and platforms, capacity building of policymakers and institutions and carrying out normative and analytical work to assist ESCAP member countries in the following areas:
National Innovation Systems (NIS), Technology Innovation Management, Development and Transfer of Technology; Technology Facilitation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a specific focus on food and nutritional security, energy security and environmental sustainability; New and Emerging technologies (e.g. biotechnology, nanotechnology, ICT, Internet of Things, and renewable energy); Technology Intelligence Services (e.g. periodicals & publications, research & analytical studies); and Digital Strategy (websites, social media etc. to enhance the outreach and impact of the programme outputs and outcomes).
The nature of the work that would be assigned to an intern would depend on the intern's academic and professional background and his/her area of interest meeting the requirements of the work programme of the Centre. The interns will be provided with specific TOR (terms of reference) relevant to the particular programme area assigned to them.
Competencies

To
qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme,
applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
c) Have graduated with a relevant university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
Work Experience
a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
c) Have graduated with a relevant university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
Interns are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
They shall be computer literate in standard software applications;
They should have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
They should have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
They shall be computer literate in standard software applications;
They should have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
They should have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Fluency
in spoken and written English is required for the internship. A
candidate with a native speaker of English will have an advantage.
